Do you shave your knits?

GARMENTS OVER TIME
If you have ever had a cotton or wool knitted item, you'll eventually notice that over time it will start to pill and get fuzzies on it. It's not necessarily a nice look, so every so often you want to remove the pills to freshen up the garment and make it look like new again!
THE TOOLS
There are typically two kinds of shavers you can use - manual and electric. I personally have never tried an electric one, I'm a little scared to TBH. But I may consider trying one, I found this rechargeable one on Amazon that looks inviting. I personally have a manual one, the brand is Gleener. Mine is old, they don't even make this version anymore. But their new handheld one looks a little nicer to use anyways and is easier to use and better for your wrists I am sure! They have three different shave options, depending on what kind of fiber you have and if it's delicate or not.
HOW OFTEN TO SHAVE
It mostly depends on the fiber and how often you wear and wash it. I have a few cotton shirts I made four years ago, I think I need to shave some of them this year finally for the first time. I have a natural wool cardigan I made two years ago, it pills quite easily so I spruce it up every year. Just keep an eye on your garments and do it as needed!
KEEPING THINGS NICE
The best thing to help prevent pilling and fuzz from appearing, is to make sure you don't put it through the washer. This is exactly where I have gone wrong. All my cotton knits have pills and need freshened up, because I put them in the washer on delicate cycle and lay them out to dry. Now, given that, they still look great! But if you want to keep them looking as good as possible for as long as possible, don't do that. You will want to hand wash them without agitiation. And if you don't have a big sink for a load of knits, you could always invest in Knit Picks Strucket - a super handy bucket with strainer that makes it easy to wash your knits without using the tub or your kitchen sink.
